Connected public source: NHTSA vPIC
For non-sample VINs, basic decoding calls the public NHTSA vPIC API. Returned attributes are manufacturer-submitted and may be incomplete. vPIC is not a complete factory-equipment, vehicle-history, ownership or valuation service.
We do not fabricate missing attributes. Unavailable values are shown as unavailable, and failed decoding returns a clear error. Public lookup requests have timeouts, bounded retries and request auditing.
Demonstration factory equipment
The sample vehicle is a fictional 2016 BMW 330i M Sport dataset. Its attributes, option list and original sedan illustration are product demonstrations, not verified information about a real vehicle. Every sample page, checkout and PDF is labeled.
Demo purchases simulate an authorization and successful delivery. They require no card, transfer no money and create no real tax invoice. The report PDF includes the same equipment without another purchase.
Commercial integrations are not connected
VINdata.io, One Auto API, Outvin and Auto.dev are candidate providers from the project brief, not integrations or partners of OptionsByVIN. Contracts, licensing, brand coverage, per-request prices and caching rights must be verified directly before an adapter is enabled.
Stripe is prepared in server code for signed webhooks and separate authorization and capture. Live checkout remains disabled because no licensed equipment adapter is connected. No secrets are included in source.
Billing region is independent of language
The interface supports 24 languages. Country, language, supported billing currency and theme are separate preferences. On a first visit, browser language and timezone provide defaults; a saved manual choice takes priority. An existing report and order retain their saved currency and quote when preferences change.
There is no silent currency conversion. Commercial launch still requires tax configuration, supported market policies and invoice validation. The displayed demo price is a configurable product hypothesis.
Sources and illustration
The public decoder source is NHTSA vPIC at vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov. The vehicle graphic is an original illustrative SVG, not a photograph or evidence of a vehicle’s condition. No competitor content is scraped or reused.
