START WITH THE IDENTITY

One VIN. Meet the vehicle.

Check manufacturer-submitted details, then see whether a more detailed factory report is supported. Basic decoding is free.

Find it on your dashboard, door frame or registration document.

What a VIN decoder can establish

A 17-character vehicle identification number is a standardized identifier. The NHTSA vPIC service can return manufacturer-submitted make, model, model year and selected powertrain attributes. Coverage and detail vary, especially outside the US market.

An accepted VIN format is not proof that a vehicle exists, has a clean title or matches a seller’s description. Compare the VIN on the car with the registration and other documents.

Basic decoding versus factory options

A basic decode does not establish the full as-built equipment list. Features such as a specific sound system, seat package or driver assistance package need a separate factory-equipment source.

In this MVP, the sample BMW report demonstrates that richer experience. Real equipment reports remain unavailable until licensed coverage is connected.
